TET Court Case Status (Simplified) – April 2026
1. Supreme Court Hearing Update
The highly anticipated hearing scheduled for April 2, 2026, was a procedural session before the Registrar. The case is now in the "For Judgment" stage. While many rumors suggested a final order, the court is currently finalizing documentation. A decisive verdict regarding the mandatory nature of TET for "old" teachers is expected by mid-to-late April 2026.
2. New Qualifying Marks (G.O. Issued)
In a major relief, the TN Government issued a new G.O. on January 28, 2026, reducing the qualifying marks:
- BC / MBC / DNC / PWD: Reduced to 50% (75 Marks).
- SC / ST: Reduced to 40% (60 Marks).
- General Category: No Change (60% - 90 Marks).
3. Minority Schools Verdict
The Madras High Court has recently reiterated that TET is mandatory for all future promotions (from Secondary Grade to B.T. Assistant), even in Minority Institutions. However, teachers appointed in Minority Schools before 2011 continue to have temporary protection in specific pending appeals.
